Commercial Strategy Manager

Employment type:  Full time

Remote-first

A little flex time

Job Description

We are looking for a colleague to join our Strategy Team in Product & Purchasing, a global platform department which works across TUI’s source markets. The team’s aim is to create a common accommodation portfolio based on the local market and customer requirements, whilst facilitating profit optimisation across markets on a group level, to improve TUI’s competitive situation overall.

As a Commercial Strategy Manager, you are responsible for driving the Group Product & Purchasing strategy and working with the Group Product & Purchasing Leadership team to ensure strategic KPIs are set, monitored and subsequently achieved. As such, you will own and drive the Strategic Planning Cycle across Product & Purchasing, running strategic planning events with the leadership team and providing analysis to highlight trends in both internal & external performance, to drive out key focus areas & initiatives to be taken forward. You will have a thorough understanding of the leisure travel market, key customer segments and competitors. You will be actively seeking out trends in the travel and leisure industries and identifying opportunities for Group Product & Purchasing to further explore.

You will evaluate and prioritise these commercial opportunities, creating a programme of projects that you will manage and oversee throughout the yearly planning cycle to ensure a range of strategic, innovative solutions are generated and successively implemented. You will lead and influence your colleagues in a collaborative way, so that these recommendations are well received, supported and are subsequently executed to a high standard.

As this role is part of a global team, we are flexible on location and the role holder can be based in any of our main source markets.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Many aspects of this exciting role will stem from the Group Product & Purchasing 3-year plan and from Strategic Planning Events that you will design, set up and facilitate with the Head of Strategy. You will provide analysis and insights to the Product & Purchasing leadership team, to stimulate debate, creativity and problem solving to ultimately drive out the key commercial focus areas for Product & Purchasing.

You will be the owner of the Group Product & Purchasing commercial KPIs. You will work with colleagues across Group Product & Purchasing to define & implement a core set of KPIs ensuring that these are updated, tracked & shared with our key stakeholders. Moreover, you will initiate actions to deliver corrective measures where required, working collaboratively with the wider team to understand why KPI measures are off-track and generating initiatives to change.

As a result of the planning events and the on-going monitoring of KPIs, you will generate & manage the commercial project pipeline. This will include prioritising initiatives based on a set of benefit indicators to ensure we are spending our time & efforts in the right place to improve the performance of TUI Group. You will ensure each initiative is completed to a high standard, offers sound recommendations and is successfully implemented within the TUI Group. Often, you will be the project lead but, when not, you will also offer project management & implementation support to other team members to guide projects through to successful completion. You will lead and influence your colleagues, within Group Product & Purchasing but also across TUI source markets and other TUI group roles, a in a collaborative way, so that these recommendations are well received, supported and are subsequently executed to a high standard. Key teams to work with include, but are not limited to, Group Strategy, Group CX, TUI Hotels & Resorts, Group Finance and various TUI Source Markets.

Operating in an ever-changing market often means that new focus areas or strategic questions arise that require a fast reaction & turnaround of recommendations. You will be the go-to person to effectively collate and analyse data, working with the Head of Strategy to identify effective solutions & actions that will be shared with the Product & Purchasing Board and wider. As part of the Group Product & Purchasing Strategy team, you will be required to support ad-hoc projects and preparation for board presentations when required.

You will continuously seek ways to improve processes, working with relevant Process Owners and the Group Product & Purchasing Change & Transformation team to drive efficiency. You will make all plans transparent to your colleagues and senior leadership team to allow adjustments to priority setting.

Whilst this role does not have direct line management responsibility, it is essential that you lead, motivate and engage colleagues within a matrix structure.

What we are looking for:

  • Strong commercial and strategic experience within a global business, preferably within the travel industry / tour operator business – ability to define, monitor and drive strategic direction.

  • Confident communicator, strong influencer with excellent stakeholder management skills.

  • Confident and eloquent presenter with proven story-telling abilities and confident in using powerpoint.

  • Team player who can build strong relationships with colleagues across different markets to find best solution to conflicting demands.

  • Strong time management skills, be able to prioritise work under pressure and in unpredictable environments, build and follow a project plan to meet deadlines.

  • A keen interest in the Leisure travel market with a strong appetite for continuous learning & improvement.

  • Highly numerate and competent using MS Office.
