Bord Gáis Energy generates, sells and trades energy for use in the Republic of Ireland. We’ve been in operation since 1976 and today we supply over 700,000 customers with energy in Ireland. Reporting to the Head of Industry & Smart Solutions, the Technical Business Analyst will support the on-going operation and development of Bord Gáis Energy’s Gas and Electricity retail market messaging systems, processes, and design.

This role has an outward and internal business facing aspect. In this role you’ll learn about the Irish retail energy market processes, operated between all suppliers and both network companies, including the technology that under pins it. You will be responsible for aspects of the related internal systems (Oracle CC&B system) and business process end to end.

You will join the Industry & Smart Solutions Team, which has a key role in supporting:

a) Gas and Electricity industry interfaces with both Network Operators (GNI and ESBN)

b) The internal Gas & Electricity processes, triggered by each market interaction

c) The processing of BGE customers interval consumption data, resulting from the national roll out of electricity smart meters

In this role you’ll support activities such as customer supplier switching; requesting meter works at a customer’s premises; customer change of tenancy; receiving customers readings for billing; or changes to meter configuration on site etc.

A mix of skills from technical, business analyst, and/or developer background would be preferred, with an interest and willingness to learn how the retail energy market operates.

About the Role

  • Supporting the Bord Gáis Energy Industry orchestration, which are incorporated into Oracle CC&B, and the associated market design
  • Develop and execute work plans with the Head of Head of Industry. Prioritise and coordinate the tasks and workload for yourself and the offshore element of the industry team.
  • Ownership and responsibility for assigned market process rules or message flows, for any queries or received Industry changes
  • Manage and lead interactions with team leaders across IT, various business units and external meetings. Become a trusted expert on Gas and Electricity Retail Industry
  • To represent the Industry Team at different sprints, stand up meetings and provide updates or take away actions
  • Documenting and performing configuration changes on the Oracle CC&B system
  • Communicate with developers via pseudo code and/or learning the essentials of Oracle proprietary scripting language.
  • Hands on analysis of issues assigned, of which some may require examining logs, understanding database schemas / updating or writing SQL queries to investigate.
  • Work closely with other development, testing and release planning team for the Market Messaging Systems and CC&B

About You

  • IT utility experience would be an advantage.
  • Good level of experience of using PL/SQL or SQL to perform data analysis.
  • Experience of agile delivery with Azure Devops and backlogs
  • History of supporting and delivering technical change and/or software development
  • Collaboration skills across a wide group of stakeholders with a varied skillset and technical experience
  • Ability to not only understand complex systems, but also the low-level interactions among the various components.
  • Experience working with XML interfaces and schemas.
  • Experience of using any of the following applications desirable: SAP ISU, Oracle Utilities CC&B or equivalent
  • Writing details design documentation for offshore development and helping with system testing if needed.
  • Experience business process analysis / Visio process mapping Degree or equivalent in Business, Engineering, or IT discipline with a minimum of 2 years’ experience.
  • Self-Starter, multitasking, like a variety of tasks assigned , take on responsibility and wiliness to learn about utility processes and systems.
