British Gas (BG) New Business and Net Zero is hiring a Financial accountant to maintain the monthly financial accounts and processes for the EV Mobility business. Location - Flexible home working with occasional travel to our Windsor offices.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Financial accountant to join the New Business and Net Zero finance team at the heart of this exciting new growth business. Through New Business and Net Zero, we install, optimise and service green devices and upgrade customer’s homes to reduce emissions, improve resilience and reduce their energy consumption.

Reporting to the Net Zero Financial Controller this key role is primarily focused on developing and maintaining the monthly financial accounts and processes for the businesses with strong growth aspirations across Low Carbon Homes (incl. Solar, Heat pumps, Insulation) and Electric Vehicles. This will involve close working across the other Finance teams and the business to make sure that the developing business is understood and ensuring the right accounting, reporting and controls are in place. In order to achieve this it will require a deep understanding of the business and plans ahead.

The successful candidate must be able to work through accounting consequences of new ideas, challenge thinking and implement and monitor controls to ensure robust financial results.

Accountabilities

  • Develop strong relationships with key stakeholders in the Business and Group.
  • Develop deep understanding of business activities to ensure that these are accounted for correctly and robust controls and processes are in place
  • Support the wider Finance and business teams to provide accurate accounts which can be relied upon for decision making and future planning
  • Support Transformation activities through design and delivery of changes to reporting methodologies, to ensure this new area has great insight into performance
  • Own the month-end close process, including accurate and timely preparation and review of journals and results, reporting to the Net Zero Financial Controller
  • Maintaining the integrity of the balance sheet by completing and reviewing reconciliations and clearing open items on a timely basis.
  • Ongoing reviews of financial processes, making changes to improve where necessary
  • Assisting with queries on the statutory accounts for legal entities and supporting audit fieldwork queries
  • Providing ad hoc support for wider finance teams

Education and past experience

  • ACA/ACCA/CIMA Accounting qualification and relevant PQE
  • Collaborative approach, providing support to other finance teams as needed
  • Excellent communication skills – a confident individual who is comfortable liaising with various stakeholders
  • Experience with financial accounting and reporting systems e.g. SAP, BPC
  • A process-focused individual with a passion for continuous improvement and ability to deliver change involving a start up business and multiple stakeholders
  • A self-starter who can identify issues as they arise and resolve them with minimal involvement from manager
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and calm under pressure with the ability to juggle and prioritise multiple deliverables with a high degree of self-management
  • Ability to present and explain financial accounting treatments in a clear and simple way.
