We have a fantastic new opportunity for a Senior Compliance and Policy Specialist. You will be joining our Energy Efficiency team who are responsible for definition and execution of the government Energy Company Obligation (ECO) and the Great British Insulation Scheme which has a combined financial weight of £1.2bn. The team ensure cost effective delivery to support the commercial performance of the British Gas Energy business, whilst building and maintaining fulfilment partnerships outside ECO, supporting the growth agenda of British Gas Zero. We’re looking for people with a passionate belief in the importance of the Net Zero.
Location: With our Flexible First working arrangements we empower our colleagues to work in a way that best suits them – meaning location doesn’t need to be a barrier. This role can be mostly based at home with occasional meetings required at our Centrica sites. We understand that full time hours don’t suit everyone which is why we would be more than happy to also consider applications from candidates who wish to work part time hours.
In this role you will be providing specialist compliance support, policy development and governance on energy efficiency and fuel poverty programmes. This role is part of a management team of 7 responsible for the delivery of programmes with a combined financial weight of £350m- £500m p.a.
Key Accountabilities:
Warm Home Discount Industry Initiatives (WHDII)
- Oversee up to 10 fuel poverty schemes, liaising with internal and external programme managers to ensure delivery is to schedule, compliant with WHD Regulations and targets met.
- Prepare notifications and end of year reports as required by Ofgem.
- Provide consultancy for development of new initiatives and evaluate existing programmes for value-for-money and outcomes.
Technical Excellence
- Support internal and external partners on understanding of PAS, building regulations, RdSAP/SAP, MCS, TrustMark, Ofgem requirements ensuring compliance and safety under obligation funding frameworks.
- Support planning and lobbying for change in these areas, specifically not but necessarily limited to obligation use, including cost/benefit analysis and financial impacts.
- Support internal reporting and QA teams in understanding best practice and validating risk strategy to provide assurance that British Gas is operating to legislation and Ofgem supplier guidelines, and that volume notified is approved as part of British Gas’ overall obligation.
Policy Development
- ‘Hold the pen’ on consultations with Government and administrators to ensure schemes are deliverable and cost-effective.
- Work with team to build next phase of obligations strategy and design of future schemes (2026-2030) as relates specifically to what is currently ECO and WHDII.
Who are we looking for?
- Demonstrable in-depth knowledge of low-carbon and energy efficiency standards and regulations including MSC, PAS2030 and PAS2035.
- Experience in obligation or grant funded programme management.
- Experience in working with policy makers/administrators to build/correct/improve energy efficiency or fuel poverty schemes.
