To continue our growth, an exciting opportunity has become available for a Senior Marine Consultant to join our team in Australia. If you're passionate about environmental sustainability, possess exceptional leadership skills, and thrive in a collaborative environment, this is the perfect opportunity for you. The Senior Marine Consultant will act as Project Manager and/or technical expert and work with a multi-disciplinary team to deliver high quality environmental projects, with a focus on environmental impact assessments and regulatory approvals. They will contribute to business development and promotion activities.

The Senior Marine Consultant will:

  • Have expertise in their field with strong technical capability in environmental investigations, impact assessment, feasibility and planning studies and regulatory approvals.
  • Provide strategic and statutory environmental advice to clients in a variety of sectors, with a focus on coastal and marine projects.
  • Build upon existing and develop new client relationships to further the WA and Singapore environment business.

In this role you will be able to -

  • Perform high quality and professional technical work involving considerable independence in approach, and individual judgement and strong initiative.
  • Manage and monitor technical activities of technically complex projects (high technical impact or risk), which may involve multiple organisations and/or disciplines.
  • Project manage a range of projects to scope and within time, cost and quality requirements.
  • Participate in strategic planning; including directing/participating in major proposal preparation and presentations; able to prepare, review and submit proposals / tenders.
  • Perform peer review of various projects, supervise and review the work of other consultants.
  • Serve as a technical specialist in the application of advanced concepts, principles and methods in an assigned area.
  • Provide technical advice to management and business delivery teams, and direct or advise on use of equipment or material.
  • Share knowledge and act as mentor within their area of expertise or across the business.
  • Adhere to, and actively promote, quality, safety and environmental procedures/standards.
  • Liaise with clients, potential and current, for the purposes of work generation, service delivery, networking, and business development.
  • Contribute to thought leadership activities through your work.
  • Discuss and present complex technical problems at technical conferences, author papers and social media posts.
  • Select/identify new areas of investigation in order to further BMT’s mission.
  • Undertake specific technical tasks including but not limited to:
    • Environmental policies and strategic advice.
    • Scoping and identification of stakeholders and issues.
    • Application and detailed understanding of marine and environmental quality guidelines and technical guidance.
    • Regulatory approvals.
    • Environmental impact assessments.
    • Environmental management plans.
    • Environmental risk assessments.
    • Environmental planning and auditing.

Relevant Education, Experience, and Skills -

Essential:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marine/Environmental Science, or other relevant area of study.
  • More than 5 years experience post-graduation.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong technical background.
  • Knowledge of relevant State and Federal Legislation.
  • Existing client network in environmental policy, assessment and approvals.
  • The ability to coach and mentor graduates.
  • Right to work in Australia with no restrictions.

Desirable:

  • Post graduate degree (Honours, Masters, PhD) in relevant field.
  • Experience working within the scientific, engineering or resources sector.
  • Post-graduate qualifications in environmental management or other relevant area of study.
  • Demonstrated business development skills.
  • Experience working in the field.
  • Current Australian driver’s licence with a clean driving record.
